Founded in 1976, the Watford African Caribbean Association “WACA” is a small charity promoting good health, culture and education across generations. They are involved in a range of projects including an award-winning Saturday School for 5-16 year olds, a Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Support Group and a programme for the Elderly.
As a charity, keeping costs down is always important. Reaching out to our volunteers, service users, members and other stakeholders by post has become an increasingly expensive option. Not everyone has or uses email (notably the older generation).
Sending information about upcoming meetings and events via SMS is a secure, reliable and cost-effective solution. WACA can instantly and easily engage with hundreds of contacts in their growing database with just a few keystrokes.
Throughout the year, WACA hosts a number of events, celebrations and exhibitions – particularly in Black History Month which occurs each October. A quick text before an event can help to promote attendance. The rapid nature of SMS means that it is ideal for last minute messages and reminders, encouraging recipients to attend and engage right up until the event starts.
With Textlocal’s special charity rate of 2.8p for text, WACA is saving almost 60p for every contact compared to their previous postal activity – a saving of over 95%!
Feedback from recipients has been positive and WACA have plans to develop and increase their use of Messenger to cover a wider range of activities.
